Pipe Creek is an unincorporated community in Bandera County, Texas, in the rolling Hill Country about nine miles east of Bandera and roughly forty miles northwest of San Antonio. The community was founded in the 1870s, named for the creek that runs through it, and grew as a way station for travelers moving between San Antonio and Bandera. For much of its history, Pipe Creek proper remained a small rural crossroads, its population reported at just a few dozen residents through the late 20th century, with a handful of businesses, churches, a community center, and a library serving the surrounding ranches. The modern Pipe Creek area is a different story. While the historic core is still small, the wider community has grown into a low-density residential area within the San Antonio metropolitan sphere, home to roughly 9,000 people spread across Hill Country acreage. This growth has been driven by the area's natural setting and its commuter convenience: Bandera lies a short drive to the west, Boerne about fifteen miles away, and San Antonio's employment centers are within reach for those willing to make the drive. The family ranches and farms that historically defined the region still shape its open, working-landscape character. The community is served by the Bandera Independent School District, which covers more than 400 square miles of eastern Bandera County and operates Hill Country Elementary near Pipe Creek. Recreation centers on the Hill Country itself, with Medina Lake nearby for boating and fishing, and Bandera's Western-heritage attractions and rodeo culture just down the road.
